MCI Oversees the Renewal of TV Synchronization Complexes for Hessischer Rundfunk

In December 2022, Hessischer Rundfunk commissioned MCI to renew the TV synchronization complexes in Broadcasting Houses 3 and 4, Building F, in Frankfurt.

As part of the contract, MCI is responsible for the delivery, installation, and commissioning of the complete TV synchronization complexes. The adaptation to the existing audio, video, and data infrastructure, as well as the central clock distribution, are also integral parts of the detailed project specifications. The scope of services includes the creation of documentation and the provision of training for Hessischer Rundfunk’s in-house staff.

The renewal of these central elements for audio post-production and dubbing requires precise planning and execution, which MCI ensures with care and reliability. Special focus is placed on the sequential implementation of the project—only one complex may be out of operation at a time to avoid disrupting ongoing operations.

Each synchronization complex consists of two rooms—the control room and the speaker room—and shares a central equipment room with other complexes. MCI integrated key components such as the AVID S6 console with MTRX, in cooperation with SMM from Munich as a subcontractor, the KVM system from Ihse, and a Dante network to seamlessly connect office and conference PCs.

The existing high standards and the specific acoustic requirements of Hessischer Rundfunk were maintained by MCI and incorporated into the design of the renewed facilities.

One challenge was to design the furniture so that the monitors are arranged in a way that does not affect the monitoring situation and ensures the integration of the S6 console into the desk.

Targeted planning and transparent communication are essential to meet the strict schedules and internal processes of Hessischer Rundfunk and to maintain uninterrupted operations at all times. MCI is pleased to have contributed to the design of the TV synchronization complexes in Broadcasting Houses 3 and 4 and was able to hand them over ready for operation.
